Web design & development

Web design for UK businesses ready to grow

We plan, design and build websites that make the offer easier to understand and the next step easier to take. Strategy, UX, visual design and development stay connected from the first decision to launch.

Choose the starting point

Different website problems need different first decisions.

01

A new website

Build the structure, message and technical foundation together rather than joining separate decisions at the end.

02

A considered redesign

Keep what already works, find where the journey loses clarity and redesign around the next stage of the business.

03

A clearer buying journey

Rework priority pages when the offer is strong but visitors struggle to understand, compare or enquire.

Website redesign

Change what holds the website back. Protect what already works.

A redesign joins commercial, content and technical decisions. We establish the current baseline before changing the structure, platform or presentation, then make the launch measurable.

01

Establish the baseline

Review useful pages, search visibility, analytics, enquiries, content, integrations and technical constraints before deciding what to change.

02

Plan the new structure

Map retained, revised, merged and new pages against the buying journey so design starts from an agreed content and navigation plan.

03

Protect the transition

Map every retained, replaced and removed URL. Prepare permanent redirects, canonicals, index controls, metadata, internal links, sitemaps, structured data and tracking alongside the build.

04

Verify the release

Crawl and test the working website, record the search and analytics baseline, then monitor redirects, indexing, search visibility and enquiry measurement after launch.

Buyer fit

A useful fit when the website has become a business constraint.

The project starts by defining the decision the website must make easier. Design follows that decision rather than becoming the project by itself.

01

Your offer has changed and the current website no longer explains it well.

02

Several services or audiences need a clearer structure and route to enquiry.

03

Your B2B business is commercially established, but the website does not reflect its quality or support a considered sale.

04

You are spending on advertising while weak landing pages, limited organic visibility or poor measurement reduce the return.

05

You need one team to connect research, design, development and launch decisions.

Relevant work · Wild Science

From weekly enquiries to a more reliable daily flow on a bespoke WordPress foundation.

For Wild Science, the website work brought animal experiences and science workshops into distinct journeys. After the new website and brand guidelines launched in June 2024, and alongside the ongoing SEO, content, maintenance and PPC programme, average enquiry volume increased by roughly seven times and moved from an inconsistent weekly pattern to a stronger daily flow.

Choosing an agency

How to choose a web design agency

Compare the substance of the engagement before comparing the presentation. These four checks expose most gaps before a project begins.

01

Relevant work you can inspect

Look for a project with a comparable decision, audience or technical challenge. Ask what the agency delivered and how the outcome was measured.

02

A scope you can compare

The proposal should name the pages, deliverables, integrations, exclusions and review stages. A total price without those details is difficult to assess.

03

Clear responsibilities

Confirm who owns research, copy, photography, data, feedback and approvals before the schedule depends on them.

04

Ownership after launch

Check who owns the domain, code, designs, analytics and accounts, and what handover, maintenance and support are included.

Scope

Know what the project contains before it begins.

The final proposal turns these categories into a named set of pages, systems, responsibilities and review points.

Included in an agreed website scope

  • Discovery and review of the existing website, offer and constraints
  • Page architecture and priority user journeys
  • Wireframes and content direction for the agreed pages
  • Visual design for responsive layouts and key states
  • Development on the agreed platform and technical stack
  • Analytics, form and search essentials agreed in the project scope
  • Launch checks, handover and documented next actions

Defined separately or excluded

  • Unplanned integrations or functionality added after scope approval
  • Unlimited copywriting, photography, illustration or video production
  • Paid media, ongoing SEO and maintenance unless included separately
  • Claims, testimonials or business facts that the client cannot verify

Typical handover set

  • Approved page and navigation structure
  • Responsive page designs for the agreed templates
  • A working website on the agreed platform
  • Content and asset requirements by owner
  • Launch, measurement and handover checklist

04

Check, launch and learn

The site is reviewed as a working customer journey, then released with clear ownership.

Netdesignr

Complete launch QA, measurement checks, handover and the first improvement list.

Your team

Approve final content, complete operational checks and nominate the post-launch owner.

Budget and timing

Scope drives the proposal.

We define the work before giving a timetable or cost. That makes the proposal easier to compare and reduces assumptions on both sides.

What changes the timeline

  1. 01 Number of unique page templates and decision journeys
  2. 02 Readiness of copy, photography and approved evidence
  3. 03 Complexity of CMS, forms, integrations and migrations
  4. 04 Number of decision-makers and speed of consolidated feedback
  5. 05 Accessibility, localization or regulatory requirements

What changes the investment

  1. 01 Research and content support required before design
  2. 02 Custom interaction and functionality beyond standard pages
  3. 03 Platform, integration and data-migration requirements
  4. 04 Volume of unique layouts and reusable components
  5. 05 Post-launch support, search or conversion work included in the engagement

Compare the same scope

A lower total may cover less work or leave more responsibility with your team. Check that each proposal states the same essentials.

  • Named pages, templates and responsive states
  • Research, copy and asset responsibilities
  • CMS, functionality, integrations and migration work
  • Analytics, forms, search foundations, testing and launch support
  • Ownership, exclusions, change control and post-launch costs

Questions buyers ask

Clear answers before the first call.

01 What does a web design agency do?

A web design agency can connect research, page structure, user journeys, responsive visual design and development into one working website. The exact scope should also state who handles copy, assets, integrations, analytics, launch checks and ongoing support.

02 How much does professional website design cost?

We price each website after agreeing the scope rather than publishing a standard online price. The proposal states the pages and templates, research and content support, custom functionality, integrations, migrations, post-launch requirements and applicable VAT. We provide the development or staging environment needed to build and launch the website, but ongoing production hosting is not included in the build price and becomes chargeable from launch.

03 What should a website design quote include?

A useful quote should name the pages and templates, research and content responsibilities, responsive states, CMS and functionality, integrations and migration, analytics and forms, testing and launch support, ownership and handover, exclusions, change control and any continuing third-party or support costs.

04 How are website project payments staged?

Website projects are normally paid 50% upfront and 50% upon delivery. If the client is not continuing with Netdesignr hosting, we transfer or deploy the completed website to the client’s hosting after the final balance has cleared.

05 Do you design and develop the website?

Yes. The engagement can cover research, structure, UX, visual design and development. Development can include responsive templates and components, CMS setup, forms, agreed integrations, analytics, technical checks, deployment and handover. The proposal names the platform, functionality, content responsibilities and launch support before work begins.

06 What is the difference between web design and web development?

Web design defines the content hierarchy, user journeys, page layouts and interface states. Web development turns those approved decisions into a working website, connects the CMS, forms and agreed systems, and makes the result testable and maintainable. Keeping both in one project reduces gaps between what was designed and what can be delivered.

07 What do web development services include?

For a business website, development can include reusable page components, responsive behaviour, CMS configuration, forms, analytics, agreed third-party integrations, accessibility and performance checks, testing, deployment and handover. Our main delivery routes are custom WordPress builds and bespoke front ends using React or Astro, with Strapi available when a headless CMS is the right fit. For data-backed applications, we can use Supabase or Neon for managed Postgres databases and GraphQL APIs where the integration and query model benefits from them. Custom web applications and React, Astro or Strapi builds can also be scoped as standalone engagements. Ecommerce, mobile-app integrations and ongoing maintenance are scoped separately when they are part of the requirement.

08 Do you build custom web applications?

Yes. Netdesignr can take on custom web applications and bespoke React, Astro or Strapi builds as standalone engagements. The scope can cover product planning, interface design, front-end development, content architecture, integrations, testing, deployment and handover. We do not currently publish a detailed client case study for this work, so the website does not attach unapproved client names, metrics or project details to the capability.

09 Does web design include SEO?

A web-design project can include the foundations search engines need: crawlable pages, clear headings, metadata patterns, redirects, structured content, performance checks and measurement. Keyword strategy, ongoing content, digital PR and continuing SEO are separate services unless the proposal includes them.

010 Should I use a website builder or hire a web design agency?

A website builder can suit a simple site with standard functionality when you have the time and confidence to plan, write, build and maintain it. An agency becomes more useful when the offer, page structure, content, integrations, migration or measurement need to work as one joined-up project.

011 What makes a B2B website project different?

We work best with established B2B businesses whose commercial reputation has outgrown their online presence. They may be difficult to find in search, rely too heavily on paid advertising or lose qualified prospects on a website that does not communicate the value of the business. The website needs to explain a considered offer to several decision-makers, provide credible evidence and turn marketing investment into measurable qualified enquiries.

012 Can you redesign an existing website without starting again?

Yes. We first identify what is useful, what is limiting the buying journey and what the current platform can support. A redesign can preserve working content, search value and technical foundations where that is the better decision.

013 How do you redesign a website without losing SEO?

We can handle both the content migration and the SEO migration when moving a website from its old environment to the new one. We start with a crawl and search-performance baseline, then decide which URLs and content will be retained, revised, merged or removed. We build an old-to-new URL map, use permanent redirects where pages move, preserve useful internal links and metadata, check canonicals and index controls, submit the correct sitemap, and monitor crawling, rankings and enquiries after launch. No redesign can guarantee unchanged rankings, but these controls reduce avoidable losses and expose problems quickly.

014 How long does a website redesign take?

A complete redesign with a substantial content and SEO migration can take around five months. The detailed timetable also accounts for site size, content readiness, integrations, review stages and the speed of decisions. We schedule migration alongside the new design and build rather than treating it as a final launch task.

015 How long does a standard website project take?

A standard website project without branding can take up to two months when content, feedback and approvals arrive on time. When branding is included, the typical range is two to three months, depending on the size of the website.

016 Do you design and develop WordPress websites?

Yes. WordPress is our primary website platform. We build custom themes and plugins around the content, editing and integration requirements instead of forcing every project into an off-the-shelf template. We can use the traditional WordPress editor or create custom Gutenberg blocks where they make publishing easier. We also handle WordPress migrations and support WooCommerce when ecommerce is part of the agreed scope. The Wild Science project is one example of a bespoke WordPress build.

017 Which website platforms do you work with?

WordPress is our primary website platform, including custom themes and plugins. For requirements that suit a headless or bespoke architecture, we can build with React or Astro and use Strapi as the content management system. Data-backed applications can use Supabase or Neon for managed Postgres databases, with GraphQL APIs where they suit the product and integration requirements. Shopify and ecommerce are not currently our main specialism, although we can assess and deliver them when the project requirements and team fit are right.

018 Which WordPress licences and tools can you provide?

For websites we build and maintain, we can supply access to Yoast SEO Premium, WP Rocket, SMTP Pro and Gravity Forms while the client has an active maintenance plan. We also use our Journey360 plugin to support maintenance visibility, lead-evidence checks and technical issue diagnosis. The proposal identifies the licence and maintenance terms.

019 When is WordPress the right platform for a business website?

WordPress is useful when the team needs to publish and organise substantial content, manage reusable page components, control editorial roles and connect established integrations. The decision should also account for hosting, updates, security, backups, performance, accessibility and who will maintain the site after launch.

020 What are the disadvantages of using WordPress?

WordPress needs active maintenance across the core software, themes, plugins, hosting, backups and security. Too many plugins or an unsuitable page builder can create performance, compatibility and ownership problems. A controlled technical stack, documented access and a clear maintenance owner reduce those risks.

021 Who provides the copy and images?

We work with your team to gather and organise the content the website needs. Ideally, the client supplies the finished copy, images or both, along with specialist facts and approvals. If copywriting, photography, illustration or image sourcing is needed, we agree that work separately in the project scope.

022 What happens after launch?

The handover defines ownership, access, documentation and the first measurement period. Every website includes one month of post-launch support. Netdesignr runs the development or staging environment through the build and launch; ongoing production hosting is billed from launch. For websites we build, we can provide dedicated WordPress hosting, with backups, monitoring and WordPress core, theme and plugin updates managed through myWP, a WordPress maintenance service by Netdesignr. Vercel is our primary hosting route for suitable bespoke and headless builds and handles much of the infrastructure monitoring automatically. We do not offer hosting as a standalone service for websites built elsewhere. Maintenance usually continues on a monthly plan, with an annual option available. Package terms are supplied in the proposal. Content, SEO and conversion work are scoped separately.
